Ramos: Simply Not Worth The Money

Nonsense

Is there any genuine mileage in the Sergio Ramos to Manchester United rumours? We don’t doubt Manchester United’s interest but we are highly uncertain about the player’s motives, if he even knows anything about the reported interest.

There are of course exceptions but this one could easily turn out to be a case of a player threatening to leave in order to get a better deal at his existing club.

Ramos is said to be seriously unhappy about his contract situation at Real Madrid. In turn, Manchester United are ostensibly armed to the teeth with cash and desperate for a top centre back.

Sergio Ramos is Spanish through and through. He’s been at The Bernabeu for a decade and he is regularly regarded as the heartbeat of the side. So the idea that he would up sticks and move to Manchester United just doesn’t make any sense.

We think that Manchester United’s interest in every top player in the world, twinned with their extravagance in the market over the last year, makes them an easy target for players who are threatening to leave their clubs in order to improve their contracts.

In summary, this one could still surprise us. When the RvP to Manchester United story surfaced we felt that was load of nonsense too.

But this one just feels dubious from top to bottom and we would still be surprised if Ramos didn’t sign a new contract at Real Madrid within the next few months. Either that, or he’s playing a game of brinkmanship that he may actually lose.

Then Manchester United will have to decide whether they really want to shell out £46.5m, or thereabouts, for a player whose best years could already be behind him.
