Already?

Manchester United fans will be keeping their ears to the ground for solid news in an uncertain summer of transfer activity.

But one concrete development will occur tomorrow – and thats because Manchester United’s fixture list for 2015/16 will be confirmed.

Two years ago David Moyes complained about having a terrible fixture list as United met many of their biggest rivals in the first few weeks of his tenure. As it turned out, he came through those games without too much damage, before succumbing to too many minnows as the campaign progressed.

Last year Manchester United got what looked like a dream start to the autumn calendar, with no title challengers in site. But new United boss Louis van Gaal fell at the first hurdle in a disastrous opening day defeat at home to Swansea and only 13 points were gathered from a really poor first 10 games.

So the quality of opponent isn’t necessarily the crucial factor. Obviously it’s nice to get some smaller teams early on as Manchester United find their feet – there are expected to be several new arrivals this summer who will need to gel into the side – but that old cliche holds true that you have to play everyone twice so the date and time isn’t all that crucial.

We think that it would be nice to get some of the big boys out of the way early – they will also be below their best in the first couple of months – so that Manchester United can then concentrate on building some real momentum through the winter.

We shall of course keep you updated on the details as they are revealed and you can get the fixture list added to your calendar by going to the Manchester United website and clicking this link.

But here it is – the full fixture list:

Too many variables and too many players to integrate for United to challenge for the title. Consolidating on last season’s fourth place, getting to the quarter finals of the UCL and a decent run in a domestic cup competition would be a reasonable target to aim for. People point out how much United are spending but it still takes time to get to the stage where the team clicks and picks itself through consistant levels of high performance throughout the squad and attaining positive results.
