Manchester United coach has picked 26 year old as a top transfer target this summer

One of the main decisions that will probably be forced upon the Manchester United staff this summer is how to replace the sensational David de Gea if, as expected, he leaves for Real Madrid.

So far, most of the speculation has been focused upon Asmir Begovic of Stoke, Petr Cech of Chelsea and Hugo Lloris of Spurs. Another name has been thrown into the hat in the latest news cycle and he has supposedly been singled out, by Manchester United’s goalkeeping coach, as the best man for the job.

The Mirror reports:

Manchester United will step up their bid to land Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen to replace David De Gea – on the advice of keeper coach Frans Hoek.

Hoek was asked to draw up a shortlist of candidates capable of taking over from De Gea after the Spanish international made it clear he wouldn’t be signing a new contract.

He named 26-year-old Dutch international Cillessen as his top choice.

Cillessen started every game for Holland in their impressive 3rd place finish at The World Cup but he was famously replaced by Tim Krul for the penalty shoot out with Costa Rica in the quarter finals.

He moved to Ajax from NEC in 2011 and has slowly made his way to the fore, with 66 league appearances to his name. He also has 21 caps for Holland since his debut in 2013.

While we like the look of him – he’s brave and athletic – his signing would suggest to us that Manchester United are planning to use Victor Valdes as their number 1 next season. Whether Cillessen is the man to take a front line role for such a big club straight away is debatable and many to most Manchester United fans would prefer to see a high profile and proven Premier League stopper like Lloris, Begovic or Cech come into the club this summer.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans: worth a punt?
