Exciting talent

Louis van Gaal returned from a couple of cheeky weeks in Portugal to continue his quest to reinstate Manchester United to the pinnacle of the club game.

One of his first duties was to publicly welcome the awesome youngster Memphis Depay to Manchester United. The player himself was seemingly overjoyed to be at Old Trafford:

‘This is a dream come true for me; to play for the biggest club in the world and also to have the chance to work with someone who I believe is the best manager in the world, Louis van Gaal,’ Depay said. ‘I have great belief in my ability and I work hard to strive to achieve my dreams.

And The Boss reckons that he can do great things at the club.

‘I know Memphis well from our time working together in the Netherlands national team,’ Van Gaal said. ‘He is a young versatile player who has the ability to play in a number of different positions.

Memphis will ruin defenders

Memphis will ruin defender’s careers

‘It will take time for Memphis to get used to the rhythm of the Premier League but I have no doubt that he has the potential to become a great footballer for this club and he is at the right club to continue the good work he has done so far.’

Perhaps the most interesting insight comes from an arguably unbiased source, Dutch journalist Thijs Slegers, who reckons that while the 21 year old has a lot to learn, he has exactly what Manchester United needs:

“He has a lot of qualities suited to the Premier League,” Slegers said. “He is fast, he is strong, and so he can win the sprint duels with almost anyone. Mentally he is strong.

Modern football is more focused on pace than ever. In terms of The Premier League, you can add ‘strength’ to the vital qualities list – as Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria have learned the hard way this season.

The journalist, who writes for Voetbal International magazine, does add that Memphis is far from he finished product:

“His technique is OK, not impressive but OK. Sometimes in the last phase he lacks a little bit with his decision making.”

But with 21 goals in 28 games this season, he will do nicely for Manchester United, thank you very much.

Manchester United fans: do you think that Memphis can hold down a position in the first eleven next season are we looking at a more long term assimilation into the nucleus of the side?

Gud signing but we still need the likes of pogba in our DM, carvajal RB, Otamendi or Dragkovic CB.
Then additional attacking force like Firmino & Gaitan. Pls Van Gaal bring us these players & we will be sure of triple these coming season.
