If rumours are to be lived then Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino seems intent on strengthening his forward options this summer.
Latest reports suggest that Spurs are after a young German striker. The Daily Mail opines:
Tottenham Hotspur set to make bid for Stuttgart teenager Timo Werner as Spurs look to back up striker Harry Kane
He’s been prolific at every youth international level for Germany, scoring 16 in 18 for the U17s and 5 in 6 for the U19s. His dazzling form in his own age group has lead to a really impressive 67 appearances for his club Stuttgart who gave him a debut the season before last, at which time he became their youngest ever senior player.
Although he’s only scored 7 goals in total in that time his ability has come to the fore and he’s been an almost ever present for the Bundesliga side since he came into the 11.
For our money this would be the perfect addition to the squad. Harry Kane will start at number 9 next season and it might create disharmony in the camp if Pochettino signs a more experienced striker only to leave him on the bench.
A move for a youngster like Werner or Anthony Martial would not only add zest and hunger to the attacking line, but also give the Tottenham manager the opportunity to offload the expensive and underperforming talent of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, who has been an absolute disaster since joining the club.
Let’s see Werner is action. Tottenham fans: worth a punt or should you be looking for more experience?
