In Talks? Manchester United’s best XI with Karim Benzema

Benzema - Comfortably one of the top 5 strikers in Europe

Frightening

There has been a swirl of speculation over the last 24 hours that Manchester United are making move for Karim Benzema of Real Madrid.

Reports today suggest that Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward has been seen having talks with the agent of the superstar in what would amount to a major summer deal for the club.

But, if he did join, where would he fit in?

With Wayne Rooney preferring a role up front he will have to work in tandem with the potentially arriving Frenchman. You would imagine that Benzema’s arrival will necessitate a change of formation for Louis van Gaal. Through his career he has tended to end up using 4-3-3 and that’s what ultimately happened at Manchester United last season.

But, unless he plans to use Wayne Rooney as a midfielder then the 4-3-3 will have to go. Perhaps the new Manchester United will have a 4-2-3-1 look about them. This allows for two strikers – one number 9 and one in the hole – plus two midfielders to shield the defence.

If Benzema does join the club he would play number 9 with Rooney in behind. So here is how we think they would line up if the brilliant Frenchman were to sign. Manchester United fans: discuss…

You have Smalling and Rojo in centre-back, while Clyne at Left-back, how may times does Lvg need to say “United will be in the market for a Centre-back’ and a midfield for that case. If United for some odd reason not sign a top centre-back and midfielder then it would be right to say that another top 4 finish would be a massive achievement.
