Another superstar leaving? Worldie says he must be ‘realistic’ about his future at Manchester United

Manchester United may well undertake part two of the overhaul this summer and, while some look certain to leave the club, one of the hottest topics of debate is whether Louis van Gaal should offload Robin van Persie.

Injury has prevented the 31 year old from finding his devastating best form in front of goal this season for Manchester United and the Dutchman was reticent about his future when interviewed in the Holland camp this week.

It’s a strange, difficult situation. A new situation, that’s a better word.

‘I have to think, in a realistic way. It’s my ambition to play the next years.

‘I’m thinking about my family and my children with every decision I take. These are very important for me.

‘I’m a real family guy. I think it’s fantastic to see how happy my children and wife are. That’s something I take in consideration when I’m thinking about my future.’

Despite missing so much of the season through injury Van Persie was still the club’s second top scorer with 10 goals for Manchester United.

But his first season was by far and away the best of the three and, after three managers in as many years at the club, he can count himself a little unfortunate not to have enjoyed the continuity of many other star recruits to Manchester United.

The plan is probably to use Wayne Rooney as the number 9 in a 4-3-3 formation moving forward. The squad will require at least one top quality back up so, if RvP does leave, another player will have to be recruited.

So this one is very much up in the air but we have to say that we think RvP will be unhappy to sit on the bench next season and so he will be off unless LvG can find a formation that suits both Wazza and RvP.

Is there a cheeky bid by Arsenal in the offing perhaps?
