There has to be a sense of realism about the transfer business of any club.
But with Tottenham on the cusp of the elite in England and Europe, Spurs need to be as ambitious as possible in the transfer market this summer.
So, with that in mind, it’s good to see them being linked with a genuinely exciting player – one that could walk into any team in The Premier League.
The Telegraph reports today that Tottenham are keen to sign Nathaniel Clyne of Southampton.
Tottenham Hotspur are closely monitoring Nathaniel Clyne’s contract situation at Southampton and are ready to make a move if no new deal is agreed.
With Chelsea and Manchester United also reportedly interested in the player, Tottenham’s obvious trump card could be that Clyne was managed by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino last season.
Of course Tottenham already have several players, including Kyle Walker and DeAndre Yedlin, vying for the right back spot but Clyne would take them to a different level altogether.
At 23 years of age he looks to have superseded Walker as England’s number one right back and will probably have that title for some years to come.
He’s a brilliant defender but just as good going forward. If Pochettino could bring him and Morgan Schneiderlin in this summer then Tottenham really would be motoring.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Tottenham fans: any chance?
