This one has seemed inevitable for some time and what almost amounts to concrete news on the deal is filtering through.
After securing a deal for Memphis Depay of PSV, Manchester Unted have made a swift move for the services of the brilliant Southampton full back Nathaniel Clyne. That is according to The Sunday Times, who assert that a deal is close.
MANCHESTER UNITED are in advanced negotiations to sign Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton as they contiinue to strengthen their squad. United are understood to have increased their offer for the England right-back to £18m.
Clyne has become one of The Saints’ most important player over the last couple of years and forced his way in to the England fold, with little chance of anyone else taking his sport on current form.
In many ways, he’s a rich man’s Antonio Valencia – he’s at least as good as the Manchester United man going forward – with a consistently good cross and the pace to beat his man in a one on one – but he is a vastly superior defender who is diligent and strong in the tackle.
Clyne has appeared 36 times and scored 3 goals for Saints this season in what may well be his last for the club.
Let’s take look at him in action. Manchester United fans: another top signing?
