With Didier Drogba’s playing future up in the air, Chelsea could once more be looking for striking reinforcements this summer.

Drogba has said that he will play on for another year but he perhaps wants more game time than he is being afforded at Chelsea.

And, if he does move on, who better as a like for like replacement than Edin Dzeko? We have always felt that he and Jose Mourinho would be a match made in heaven at Chelsea.

Dzeko has scored consistently for City but there is a feeling that a major overhaul is about to take place in Manchester and Dzeko could be one of those to leave, having been in and out of the team since his arrival.

At 29, it wouldn’t represent long term investment but Dzeko may relish the chance to move to Chelsea and he has the sort of qualities that Jose has always admired in a number 9. He’s built like a tank but also has great quality in his feet. He holds the ball up well and works hard. We feel that Jose could exploit these qualities and get the best out of a hugely talented player who hasn’t always got the love he perhaps deserves at his current club.

With Diego Costa the number one choice when fit, and Loic Remy a great reserve, Jose may decide that Chelsea need a younger striker. But, in terms of a powerhouse number 9, a la Drogba, Dzeko could be a marvellous addition to a squad which will expect to go to the latter stages of The Champions League next season. And with Costa’s muscular problems making him a risk, Chelsea will need seasoned class in reserve.
