When Manchester United lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, it was a long time coming. Way before he actually left the club he started making ambiguous statements about his future. While you never want to see your best players leave, it’s perhaps unfair to expect foreign players to have the same allegiance to a club like Chelsea, as an Enlgishman would.
But Chelsea’s main man Eden Hazard has been making some ambiguous noises in his latest comments. Of his future he said:
“For the moment, I’m good at Chelsea,” Hazard told Lille’s official TV channel.
“I have always said I want to stay there and win as many trophies as possible, but we’ll see after that.
“In football, you never know.
Of course, with Hazard on this current trajectory, only a few teams in the world could afford him. In his homeland, PSG would struggle to find the fee, let alone Lille.
He seems really happy at his current club and you would imagine that he will stay for a couple more years, at least, to see where this Jose Mourinho project leads – the Portuguese coach is certainly making him into a more complete footballer, as he is also learning to cover his full back as well as attacking.
But these sorts of comments do little to reassure Chelsea fans who would sign him up or ten years if they could. While Chelsea have so many good players in their squad, Hazard is the genuine game changer – the oh so rare talent who can make something happen in the tightest to games, against the run of play.
