Manchester United’s reported target Nathaniel Clyne has dropped his biggest hint yet that he wants to move on this summer. The brilliant Southampton full back has been quoted as saying:

“It’s always good to have teams looking out for you, it shows how well you’ve been doing all season,” he told Sky Sports.

“I am going to take that, and keep on performing and be the best player I can be.

“Right now I’m concentrating on playing for Southampton, there are still games to play, and try to push for that fourth spot.

“I am an ambitious person and I want to play Champions League football. To win the title and the FA Cup, that is what I want.”

With Antonio Valencia doing a superb job for Manchester United on the flank at the weekend, and Rafael da Silva desperate to get back into the team, you might argue that the right side of defence is pretty well covered.

But Valencia still makes the glaring defensive mistakes of a midfielder and Rafael da Silva is yet to prove that he can mature into a top player rather than one who jumps in too frequently and concedes unnecessary fouls.

Along with Branislav Ivanovic, Nathaniel Clyne would have to be regarded as a red hot favourite to get into The Premier League team of the year. While the Chelsea man is solid as a rock, Clyne also has so much threat going forward. He seems to be constantly on the move and delivers a stinging and consistent delivery off that right foot.

We think that he would be a brilliant player for Manchester United – very much like Valencia in terms of mobility, work rate and pace but with that extra nous in defence – and possible more ability to beat his man when going forward.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action.
