Manchester United are never far from the tabloids with regards transfers and the hype is surely about to get much more intense as the end of season draws near.
The latest link to surface throws a new name into the hat as the BBC reports on a story from Italy:
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is said to be keeping an eye on Atletico Madrid’s 20-year-old Uruguayan defender Jose Gimenez. (Tuttomercatoweb – in Italian)
Manchester United obviously need to do something about their defence this summer. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling played brilliantly together on their first Premier League outing as a central defensive pair against Tottenham last week. But these two have a long way to go before they convince the majority of Manchester United fans that they are the long-term solution.
And even if they do excel between now and the end of the season you have to assume that at least one new centre back will come in this summer.
20 year old Gimenez is a Uruguayan defender who has already played 13 times for his country and, notably, scored a couple of goals for them to boot. He even played against England in The World Cup on that fateful night when Luis Suarez devastated The Three Lions.
He really does look as if he is on a fast track to success with club and country having also begun to establish himself at Atletico Madrid. But a player this promising will always be hard to sign from a club the size of the successful Spanish giant on an upward trajectory under the visionary talents of Diego Simeone.
Nevertheless, let’s take a look at the lad in action.
