Chelsea made a push for Shaktar Donetsk creator Douglas Costa in January and The Sun now reports that the club have agreed a deal in principle to bring the player to the club in the summer.
DOUGLAS COSTA is set to start Chelsea’s rebuilding spree following their Champions League flop.
The Brazilian midfielder has agreed in principle to sign for the Premier League leaders at the end of the season in an £18million deal.
Costa has only played twice for Brazil but, after a period of stasis in his early twenties, he has come back to the fore over the last 18 months and is on the periphery of the national squad once more.
At 24, he has been at Shaktar for 6 seasons, scoring 35 goals in 184 appearances for the club. He’s a silky and creative player whose adaptability makes him a very interesting prospect for Chelsea. Costa can perform on the wings, in the attacking midfield or as a second striker. He’s also a natural athlete – a quality that will not have gone unnoticed by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
Unless Costa’s form drops sharply over the next couple of months a move seems very possible as Chelsea look to consolidate domestically and push on after a disappointing exit from The Champions League at the hands of PSG in the week.
Let’s take a look at Costa in action. Chelsea fans: is this the sort of signing that you need to kick on next season?
