Bran has most certainly been the man for Chelsea over the last 5 or so years. The man with calfs like prize pigs has been a highly consistent performer for Chelsea, whether stationed at full-back or in the centre – he’s comfortably one of the best defenders in The Premier League in the modern era.
So reports of a summer bid from a major rival will be taken with a pinch of salt by Chelsea fans at this stage. The Express scribbles:
Paris Saint-Germain plotting £15m summer swoop for Branislav Ivanovic
With no sign of him deteriorating as a player we can’t imagine why Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who loves to build from he back, would want to offload him.
It’s much more likely that, with his contract nearing its end, that this story has been generated to put the fear of god into Chelsea about him leaving so that they go the extra mile (and the extra zero) to secure his future.
At 31 Ivanovic has won everything with Chelsea. He’s provided the backbone for The Blues since joining the club in 2008 and has also turned out 76 times for Serbia. He would walk into any team in The Premier League and his game has never been based on pace so, at 31, he still has a huge amount to offer Chelsea.
We fully expect him to sign the contract extension in the coming months. Jose doesn’t let players of this importance just swan off to a rival without a fight.
Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: should the club do everything to keep this bulldozer of a man?
