Manchester United may still spend big in the market and a player who has persistently been linked is the flying full back Nathaniel Clyne. News outlets are again reporting today that he could move to the club. The Star says:
United boss Louis van Gaal has identified that position as a priority and Clyne is emerging as the top target.
A scouting delegation from United assessed Clyne, 23, in the Saints’ 2-1 win at Newcastle last weekend.
Anyone can sign the best players in the world but you still have to get them performing as a team and that appears to be Manchester United’s problem at the moment.
But in terms of the actual recruitment policy we think it’s been fairly good since Louis arrived. And, having sorted out the left side, we think that he is going to invest heavily in the right flank over the next 6 months and then possibly revert to a 4-3-3 with two amazing wingers and Rooney in the hole behind Falcao.
But this system demands highly mobile full backs and wingers. We think that the axis of Clyne, who has two caps for England, and Memphis Depay would be sensational for that side and bring the speed of play that the left will surely have once Di Maria and Shaw bed in and start understanding each other’s play.
Let’s see Clyne in action. Manchester United fans: most likely January addition?
