Goodbye for now

Manchester United have confirmed on their Twitter feed that their talented young striker, Will Keane, has left the club on loan until the end of the season.

Keane will join Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the summer as he seeks to gain the first team experience required if he is going to have any chance of knocking on the door of Manchester United’s first team over the next few years.

Will’s brother Michael left Manchester United recently for Burnley on a permanent deal but the striker will hope that he can come back ready for the challenge of getting some game time at Old Trafford next season.

In truth, it’s never an easy task working your way up the ranks at a club that regularly spends £30m plus on players who are ready made for domestic and European action.

In reality, playing at Manchester United as a youngster offers no guarantees at all of first team football at the club. But there are few clubs who give players a better football education than Manchester United. Even if they don’t make the grade at the club they are likely to get a good professional career and all four divisions in England are quite literally littered with players who have started out at United.
