A realistic Manchester United XI vs Cambridge – gametime for Herrera and Rafa?

Slightly weakened

So we would ideally like to see Louis van Gaal play what he deems to be his best available eleven against Cambridge in the FA Cup on Friday evening (kick off 19:55 local time) – lord knows they need game time to gel together after the nightmare injury list in the first half of the season.

But we think that the Manchester United coach may well give a run out to players who haven’t had much game time of late. He may decide to rest a few of the big hitters and bring in some more peripheral squad members and players who have recently returned from injuries. He could leave players like RvP, Rooney, Carrick and Di Maria on the bench, to be used in case of emergency.

So we feel that players like Valdes, Herrera, Blind, Rafael da Silva and Marouane Fellaini could all start, fitness permitting.

We would love to see Radamel Falcao continue up top to find the sort of form that we know he’s capable of. And James Wilson, so impressive in his cameo role against QPR, should also see more game time.

We do hope that Wilson becomes more than just an impact player for Manchester United. He’s been quiet when he has started games but that devastating pace is an obvious advantage off the bench. But he seems to have more to his game than someone like Chicharito and he needs to show it if he’s going to become a regular.

We would love to see Louis revert to four at the back, especially as Evans, Smalling and Ashley Young have been confirmed as absent for this one. But he may well opt for the 3-5-2 again, to our eternal consternation.

So we expect a strong team and a very strong bench, should anything go wrong on the pitch.

Here is our wild swing at the United XI. Manchester United fans: should Louis put his best team out or rest a couple of stars for the challenges ahead?
