It’s been such a sad tale this one. As readers of soccersweep will well know, we don’t like to judge! But you have to wonder how much of this situation comes down to bad luck and how much to a lack of application.
Because Manchester United midfielder Anderson appeared to have the world at his feet when he joined the club in July 2007.
Fergie didn’t necessarily know his best position but the lad was rated very highly indeed – Alex’s brother Martin told the boss he was better than Wayne Rooney – He threw him on up front to start with but Anderson’s role become deep over time.
His stock was highest after a game against Arsenal when he quietened the playmaker Cesc Fabregas to a whisper. But that deep-lying role was dependent on great athleticism – and fitness issues appear to have been the undoing of the Brazilian during his time at Manchester United.
Now he doesn’t appear to be able to get near the first team and a loan move to Fiorentina last year didn’t yield any further interest. The Telegraph reports that United can’t find a club for the player:

You would have thought that a club in Portugal, where he had such a great time, or Brazil would find a home for him. But his wages are so comparatively high at Manchester United that clubs have seemingly been put off. Anderson too must know that any move will see a big drop in wages.
But he’s out of contract in the summer and that will almost certainly be the end of Anderson at Manchester United.
