Rumours of record-breaking official offer from Manchester United for World Cup star

Pogba seems to get better every week

Power and Precision

The current Manchester United transfer record stands at the 59.7m British pounds that they forked out for Angel di Maria in the summer.

And, if nothing else, this has proven to the football world that the club means business and can still compete in the market.

Reports today suggest that Manchester United may be about to break that record with a £61.25m bid for the French wonder boy Paul Pogba. Talksport says:

Manchester United have taken the lead in their attempt to lure Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford.

According to the Italian newspaper La Stampa, United have made the first official offer to Juventus in the form of a £61.25m bid.

It’s a bit of a strange one this. Having sold Pogba to Juventus for a nominal fee just a couple of years ago you might imagine that Manchester United would be loathe to pay such an astronomical amount for his services now. But pride regularly comes before a fall and if Louis van Gaal feels that this is the man to ignite the midfield then Pogba’s history with the club shouldn’t matter.

Pogba has gone from strength to strength in his two years away from Manchester. He is now of the of the most important players for Juventus and France – a box-to-box midfielder who also scores phenomenal goals at regular intervals. He was one of the stand out performers for France at The World Cup in Brazil 2014.

It’s difficult to see him not improving the United team. If we had that kind of money to spend on a creative for United we might instead go for a right winger. But, with the money spent already, it appears that the potential signing of Pogba wouldn’t terminally dent the transfer kitty.

Let’s see the maestro in action. Manchester United fans: a worthwhile investment?
