What an anchor

Reports continue to link Tottenham with a move for Everton’s excellent defensive midfielder James McCarthy.

Having made a massive impact in his short time at Goodison the player has reportedly drawn interest from several big clubs and it’s easy to see why.

McCarthy is a great athlete who never stops running. But he’s also a gifted and intelligent player. He’s got great feet and a decent range of passing. His positioning is excellent and he looks as if he can be dangerous going forward too as his game matures. All in all he could turn out to be a really dominant Premier League number 7 – a box-to-box sensation.

And The Mirror reports that Tottenham may see him as a decent alternative to another big target:

Tottenham target Everton midfielder James McCarthy as Morgan Schneiderlin alternative

Mauricio Pochettino is keen on Everton midfielder James McCarthy and is ready to try to prise him away in January.

Schneiderlin is possibly the more silky of the two players but we would be more than happy to take McCarthy.

He’s played 24 times for The Republic of Ireland since his debut in 2010 and can expect to be one of the first names on the team sheet for the next half dozen years at least.

He’s also been a first choice in his club side for the last two seasons playing 57 times and scoring the one goal.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Tottenham fans: Schnieiderlin or McCarthy, give the choice?

They want Lennon so it makes for a good deal with cash making up the balance.

Sounds like a Beatles swap is the answer here, Lennon for McCarthy: we need to spend a penny at the Lane, I’m sure we can work it out, all you need is love, er sorry, cash. If doesn’t work out they can both get back to where they once belonged. Something tells me I should let it be at that. COYS!
