Things had been slowly improving recently in terms of the lengthy injured list at Manchester United. But then the four wingbacks, Rafael da Silva, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw all got crocked in quick succession in what appeared to be a swift return to the dark days.
But we can offer one piece of excellent injury news as Rafael da Silva looks set to return to training. Having fractured his cheekbone against Yeovil the injury prone Brazilian looked set for yet another spell on the sidelines.
But the plucky youngster took to Instagram to let his fans know that his operation went well and that he is hoping to return to training with Manchester United on Friday. He said:
‘Operation was perfect back training normal with mask on Friday very happy. Thanks god for everything.’
Whether or not he will be fit for the weekend game against Southampton remains to be seen – he will require some kind of protective mask if he is given the green light to play – but the news will still come as boost to those who feared that Rafa would be out for another long period.
We think that Rafa is good enough to be a regular for Manchester United but his career at the club has been littered with inquires that have also stalled his progress with the national team.
