It’s safe to assume that Manchester United will do much of their remaining rebuild in the summer when players are more available for transfer. But Manchester United seem ready and willing to spend the cash now IF their top targets become available and the newspapers have been awash with stories of who could come to the club this January.
We believe that the defence is the biggest concern. The midfield looks comparatively well stocked again and, up top, Manchester United will continue to get sharper.
But the defence has looked regularly ragged and even Yeovil gave them a real scare on Sunday – albeit with Phil Jones and Jonny Evans (initially) rested.
Reports on Sunday suggested that Manchester Untied could sign the brilliant German pair of Hummels and Howedes in January. We feel that Louis van Gaal would be keen on both if he could get the, and this would give him a real boost inches quest for a top four finish come May. Manchester United may even be able to put a credible title challenge together if they brought these two in.
The other area of concern is at right back where Manchester United have been unable to pick a regular starter all season. With Rafael and Valencia now injured again, there is an outside chance that United will sign the tireless Seamus Coleman.
Other than that a midfielder could come in, with the obvious target Kevin Strootman. So here is how United could look by the end of the window, if they manage to do some of their major business early.
