The fledgling Manchester United career of Ander Herrera has been something of a hotch-potch. He has shown glimpses of the sort of skill that has has many readers begging for him to start more games for Manchester United.
But injuries and inconsistent form have slowed his progress at the club and he isn’t yet considered a first choice in the starting eleven when everyone is fit.
But if he could start scoring goals like the one which broke the deadlock against Yeovil on a regular basis then he would stroll into the team. (Picture courtesy of Telegraph)
Of course it’s impossible to score such screamers as this one every weekend – even Messi couldn’t score goal of such beauty with such frequency. But a goal of this quality shows that Herrera should be getting more goals for Manchester United. And if, like Juan Mata, he was scoring more he would be that much harder for Louis van Gaal to leave him out of the team.
Unfortunately, each 90 minutes is punctuated by nearly as many errors as moments of excellence. Against Yeovil Herrera – who joined Manchester United for around £30m in the summer – gave the ball away needlessly on a couple of occasions and he wasn’t even under pressure.
Top players don’t have the luxury of making regular mistakes and Herrera will have to learn this quickly if he wants to be a regular for Manchester United. But United fans will hope that if and when he does click, he will be like a new signing.
