Tottenham’s Top 5 Players of 2014

Players like Bentaleb and Mason have made impressive breakthroughs in this calendar year. But which five players have performed best since January?

Christian Eriksen

Tottenham’s progress over the last few years has been blighted by big departures and average arrivals. But Eriksen stands head and shoulders above the other signings. He’s been a revelation for Spurs and can unlock the tightest of defences as well as offering serious goal threat. Top player.

Hugo Lloris

Has made a few mistakes over the last year but that has to be expected from such a spectacular and adventurous keeper. It’s almost too easy for Lloris at times. Another who could get into most sides.

Erik Lamela

Took a long time to settle and some thought he’d be off in the summer. But he’s got his head down and responded to new Argentinian coach Mauricio Pochettino. Still has much to prove – but not in terms of ability.

Harry Kane

What a breakthrough. When new players come in to the fold they can start well but many drop off after an initial spurt. Not so with Harry who has positively demanded a place in the side. Easily Tottenham’s best striker.

Vertonghen

No it hasn’t been his best year for Tottenham with injury and speculation over his future. But, if Tottenham want to be viewed as a top bracket team, they need players of this calibre – Vertonghen could get into most squads in the world.

We played our best game of season on new years day without lamela. Very rarely will he try to assist a goal he always plays for a one two to get a goal for himself although he does track back well. I’m happier when he doesn’t start it seems more of a team to me. He needs to learn the game
