Since the classy Dutchman took over there has been a general sense of positivity coming out of Manchester United. Last season a week hardly went by without rumours of a player bust up with the hopelessly out of his depth David Moyes. The Scot was a man of integrity but didn’t have the reputation or status to cope with a raft of increasingly disillusioned stars at the club.

But it’s good times again at Manchester United and this seems to be reflected in the general mood of camaraderie which is illustrated in these pictures (Pictures courtesy of Instagram), taken during the official Manchester United team Christmas photo shoot which took place this week.

The newly shaven head Anderson has always been a big character and was at the centre of the fun – hopefully the mince pies were hidden well away from the Brazilian in this session.

In the year of the selfie Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Ashley Young all got stuck in and Tyler Blackett rounded off a superb year for him with a pair of festive antlers.

After a seriously difficult year for the club there is a genuine sense of excitement and optimism around Old Trafford again. When fit, Manchester United now have a squad that can compete with the best again and they will relish the chance to fight for silverware in the second half of the season.

At the turn of this year there was apprehension. That has been replaced by excitement as we head for 2015.

Manchester United fans: realistic chance of silverware this season?
