Manchester United: Quadruple injury boost from LvG ahead of Southampton

Amazing

There was some more excellent news on the injury front when Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal addressed the press on Friday.

He confirmed that Wayne Rooney would play after suffering what looked like a painful collision with the Old Trafford advertising hoardings in the game against Hull last weekend. Surely a solution to a needless injury must be found at football grounds with hoardings close to the pitch.

The Dutchman, who was in combative mood, also reported that Jonny Evans is fit to play on Monday evening (Kick Off 2000 local time). Whether he will start, after being out of action since the Leicester game in late September, is highly debatable. A role on the bench looks the more likely course of action.

Another positive update came with Angel di Maria, also injured against Hull. When asked if the Argentine would make the game against Southampton LvG said:

‘it shall be quickly but not for Monday’

The Phil Jones injury has also been rumbling on and Van Gaal gave encouraging news there too:

“Jones is coming back but not fit to play. He needs training sessions and maybe also matches in the second team. But he is coming back.

“He is fit to train. That is also very good. We are seeing already light in the tunnel.”

With Rafael da Silva also on course for an imminent return Manchester United might only be without Daley Blind and Luke Shaw, in terms of recognised first teamers, for the Liverpool game.

After such a nightmare period of injuries for the club there is light at the end of the tunnel indeed.

Manchester United fans: would you start Evans against Southampton?
