Under the radar

Watching Chelsea and Manchester City destroy their opponents with almost effortless ease this week it’s still safe to assume that the ribbons around the Premier League trophy will be of a blue persuasion come May. City are currently 6 points behind Jose’s boys but, on current form, that gap isn’t insurmountable.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have gone under the radar this season, in terms of title talk. But with four wins on the trot, is there now a suggestion that they might put a title charge together?

Most Manchester United fans won’t countenance such talk right now – they are concerning themselves with nothing more than continued progress and the next game on the fixture list.

But if this run of form does continue and the others drop a few points then the talk of an improbable comeback will intensify.

On MOTD on Wednesday evening BBC pundit Dieter Hamman gave the first indication that Manchester United could be in the hunt.

‘I think that United are building momentum now where fourth place is there for the taking‘ said Phil Neville.

With a cheeky smile Hamann responded ‘unless they win it’.

Gary Lineker immediately poo-pooed the idea but Hamann had a defiant look on his face which suggested that it may not be such an outlandish suggestion.

11 points off the pace, Manchester United are still miles behind. But there are 2/3 of the season still to play and, if anyone can come back, it’s United.

At the moment the main concern is growing as a team. A top four finish will be fine. But, if things continue to improve, injuries abate and the gap to the leaders further diminishes, we may just have another title contender before long.

Manchester United fans: are any of you thinking about a title chase right now?
