Tottenham have wasted more money than a stag at a strip joint in the transfer market over the last few years.
There have been some super signings – Bale and Lloris immediately spring to mind. But there have also been way too many duds. If even half of Tottenham’s signings had done the business then they would surely be regular Champions League participants.
Good news then. The will he won’t he transfer of Southampton super scout Paul Mitchell has been confirmed by the club.
“We are delighted to announce that Paul Mitchell has joined the club as head of recruitment and analysis,” read a Tottenham statement.
The ideal scenario for many a Tottenham fan now is for Daniel Levy to step back a little and let the professionals get on with the job that they are being supremely well remunerated for.
Levy clearly loves Tottenham and wants success as much as the fans. But we get the sense that he has been overbearing, at times, in terms of transfers and team decisions.
As a brilliant business man he must be aware of the importance of delegating the right tasks to the right people. For all his talents, he’s not a coach or a scout. And the club clearly needs more guidance here.
Tottenham has all the raw materials to be a super club. It has a massive fan base and a new stadium on the way. What they need now is a steady stream of HITS signing for the club. Because there have been way too many MISSES of late. Paul Mitchell can be a momentous signing in this respect.
