‘Noone wants to sit on the bench’ says agent of long-term Manchester United target – surely too late for a move?

Falcao hasn't done enough this season

Really?

Forget ‘broken record’. This one has been broken, glued back together, used again, smashed again, binned and then refurbished.

It is of course Wesley Sneijder to Manchester United. It feels as if reporters were talking this one up even before the internet was invented. But, just when you thought you had heard the last of it, The Daily Star is back with more:

Man Utd on RED ALERT as Wesley Sneijder is snubbed by Galatasaray

WESLEY SNEIJDER’s agent has revealed he will hold talks with Galatasaray chiefs following his client’s recent omission from the squad.

The Dutchman was benched for a recent game and you know what Dutch football stars get like when they feel badly treated…

His agent, Guido Albers, is quoted as saying:

“We’ll have talks with the board on Wednesday in Brussels. We’re going to speak about Wesley and we’ll discuss this important event.

“I really do not know why he did not start in the team. Sneijder wants to stay, but he continues to sit on the bench. Nobody wants to sit on the bench.

Anyway, as it happens, it’s not the most outlandish transfer tale that you will ever hear. But while Manchester United could use another midfield general we feel that Sneijder may struggle for game time at United now, with Wayne Rooney on fire in the number ten position and Herrera, Fellaini and Carrick fighting over the midfield berths.

Besides, Sneijder seems to have been in slow decline since his late twenties. At 30 years of age there is a sense that he lacks the hunger for another big trophy quest. Perhaps that’s harsh. He is a top pro. But he’s been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

Give us a Koke or a Strootman – someone yet to really dominate the world game and desperate to do so. But, while we wouldn’t be shocked if Louis did make a move, we do feel that Wesley’s ship has sailed with regards Manchester United.

Let’s see him scoring some beauties. United fans: Still worth a punt?
