It was hard to believe that Manchester United would ever sign Robin van Persie. But buy him they did. And now, with Louis van Gaal at the helm, it’s equally difficult to imagine the striker leaving the club.
But there have been persistent rumours about the future of The Dutchman and he’s not been at his best for Manchester United this season. You could argue that his demeanour has not been one of a footballer who is currently in love with the game.
He’s scored 3 goals for Manchester United this season and generally laboured with the new formations and signings of Louis van Gaal. The Independent claims:
Manchester United are planning for life without Robin van Persie and look certain to part company with the Dutch striker in the summer with a year remaining on his current contract.
We imagine that the future of RvP depends on how well Radamel Falcao performs over the next 6 months. If he becomes undroppable then RvP may struggle. He’s not going to want to sit on the bench long-term.
But it’s always nice to have a strong deck of strikers and we haven’t completely abandoned hope of seeing RvP, Rooney and Falcao all playing together successfully. Surely players this good can gel, regardless of their positions?
Van Persie has scored a remarkable 41 goals in 68 league games since joining Manchester United in 2012.
Let’s see some of those goals. Manchester United fans: keep or sell?
