Angel di Maria had such a brilliant start to his Manchester United career that there had to be a dip at some point.
His goals have dried up a of late and he hasn’t had the same impact on the last few games as he did in his first 5 outings for the club.
Twinned with new murmurs about the failed move to PSG and there is a feeling that Di Maria needs to let his football do the talking again.
And Argentina coach Gerardo Martino says that Manchester United have a true gem:
“I have to say that Ángel is one of the very top players in world football.
“With regards to his position, I would say that Ángel is the type of player who can play a number of different roles expertly,”
He went on to admit that there had perhaps been something of a dip at club level after that flying start:
His start was exceptional and the fact that generally when players go to a new club and have to get used to a new league, a new team, a different style of football and different team-mates, I think the form that he is showing now is possibly more typical of a player going to a new club than the very first few games when he burst onto the scene and did so well.”
With the international breaks out of the way for 4 months after midweek, Manchester United fans hope that the player and the club can get some momentum.
