Relief: Wizard says he wants to be at Manchester United ‘for many years’

United fans are yet to see the best of Di Maria

Relief?

We have seen differing reports over the last two days about Angel di Maria.

He’s been quoted as talking cryptically about his failed move to PSG last summer,

“PSG, I think they had a money problem and they couldn’t buy players” he said. “This is the main reason I didn’t go there. Playing in the French league would please a lot of players.

“Now I’m in the English league. But you never know, there is a lot of movement in football. You can never predict where you’re going to play.

But other sources have him talking in a very positive way about Manchester United.

“Leaving a club like Real and coming to as big a club as Manchester United makes you grow as a player and helps you progress in your career.

“It was a very important moment and I’m really happy here.

“Let’s hope things go well for me so I can be here for many years.”

It’s not always easy to get the exact timeline on certain quotes. But, whether he said this before or after the PSG stuff, Di Maria’s assertion that he wants to stay at United long-term will shine some positive light on a story that has made some fans a little concerned about the level of happiness of the South American wizard.

What Manchester United and Di Maria need now is a long run of games, uninterrupted by international breaks, to get this team gelling. Because the constant foreign excursions this season certainly haven’t help this embryonic team.

Louis van Gaal hasn’t yet been able to call on a fit squad and we haven’t seen anything like the best of The Argentine.

But as the season progresses we should see more regular glimpses of the sporadic genius that Di Maria has demonstrated in his early weeks at Manchester United.
