Oh dear

He spoke in his recent autobiography about having a self-destruct button. And just when Roy Keane looked as if he was once more improving his reputation with some sterling work for Villa and The Republic of Ireland, his name is being dragged through the mud once more.

The former Manchester United star was apparently involved in an altercation with a fan outside Ireland’s team hotel.

The Daily Mail reports:

Roy Keane was at the centre of a police investigation after a man was allegedly assaulted outside the team’s hotel 48 hours before Ireland’s crunch game with Scotland.

The Mail has learned that the assistant Ireland manager was allegedly caught up in an incident which saw an individual attacked outside the luxury Links Hotel in Portmarnock after team training.

The same source says that there was a quick conversation between Keano and the man early in the evening which quickly escalated into a scuffle which left the fan on the ground.

The news has brought an explosion on Twitter from Manchester United fans and the wider public. Here are some snippets of what has been said about Keano:

It’s another episode in a career of volcanic moments for the Irishman who has done little to dispel the idea that controversy is never too far behind him. But the fact that he reportedly called the police tells us that he may be more innocent that many have assumed in the immediate aftermath of the news.
