How long is it now? About 7 weeks until he window opens. There have been murmurs that Manchester United won’t spend unless a top target becomes available in the winter but they, along with Arsenal, would surely be tempted to add this guy to their defence if he became available.

And after a superb World Cup, followed by more consistent performances in The Premier League, the agent of Ron Vlaar says that his client is ready for a big move. The Mirror reports:

Vlaar’s agent has admitted the defender, 29, is considering other options.

Arnold Oosterveer said: “It is obvious that for Ron, now is the moment to make a nice big move in his career. Ron is very ambitious.

“The situation is ideal for Ron right now. You can imagine that we are not in a hurry. I don’t want to react to the rumour that he will move to either Arsenal or Man United, but Ron is very ambitious.”

Vlaar isn’t the quickest player in the league and, at 29, this is about as good as he will get. But he’s been a pillar of composure and intelligent defending for Holland (31 caps) and Villa over the last year and his stock is as high as ever.

Arsenal could most certainly use his experience and Manchester United must feel that LvG’s familiarity with the player would work in United’s favour if they did decide to make a move.

Vlaar is the sort of late bloomer that could do a job for Manchester United or Arsenal for at least a couple of years.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Do you think he’s good enough for a top club?
