Latest reports form Spain say that Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have submitted bids for the out of favour Barcelona centre back Gerard Pique. The Daily Mail reports:
Gerard Pique was left out of the starting line-up for the second successive game amid reports that Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have submitted offers for the Barcelona defender.
Pique was left on the bench in favour of midfielder Javier Mascherano for the Champions League tie against Ajax and his extended period on the bench could well lead to a move.
Pique has been an integral part of Barcelona’s success over the last 5 years but their new coach Luis Enrique prefers other options.
The former Manchester United player has great distribution and real composure about his game. There are obviously going to be concerns about buying a player who isn’t getting a game and Pique’s weakness is arguably a lack of pace. That may be further exposed in a lightning quick Premier League.
But while he has his faults, at 27, Pique could well be the calm head and quality distributor that Manchester United currently need in defence.
Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans: keen?
