Tottenham are absolutely crying out for a better strike force. While you could argue that the defence also needs further strengthening, there is no way that Spurs can get in the top four with that roster of front men.
We really like Harry Kane but he’s not experienced enough to carry the goalscoring burden alone. Meanwhile Roberto Soldado’s head is in bits after a shocking first season at the club. And Adebayor in on the wane as he perhaps considers his next big money move.
We applaud Mauricio Pochettino for not rushing into the market in the summer. He obviously couldn’t snare any players who he saw as top strikers for Tottenham.
But reports on Wednesday suggest that a triple splurge is on the cards come January. The Mirror reckons:
The Tottenham boss is considering a cut-price £6m January move for Colombian World Cup striker Teofilo Gutierrez.
That comes on top of his long-standing interest in Southampton’s England forward Jay Rodriguez, who is recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Tottenham are also checking on Borussia Mönchengladbach winger Patrick Herrmann,
We all know about Rodriguez. He’s still recovering from a serious injury but hit 17 in 39 for The Saints last season.
As for Gutierrez, he’s played 36 times for a very strong Colombia side (13 goals) and has smashed in bucket loads of goals wherever he has played – including 22 in 41 for Racing club and 17 in 38 for River Plate. Even at 29 he look swell worth a punt.
And Hermann has been drawing interest from all over Europe for a couple of years after performing impressively for his current club from wider areas and getting his debut for Germany last year.
Let’s see Gutierrez in action. Tottenham fans: keen?
