Quality

One of the great qualities of Louis van Gaal is that he doesn’t give a monkeys what the press thinks.

He has utter conviction in his plan and will buy who the heck he wants regardless of the clamour for defensive reinforcements this winter.

Indeed Van Gaal has asserted several times that, despite what the sports pages say, the quality of defending has been ok and when he can get his best back 5 playing regularly together they will improve. It’s a fair point.

So we wouldn’t be surprised if Louis confounded the media by prioritising a midfielder this winter. He’s got passmasters in Carrick and Blind but he can only turn to Fellaini for the power and the Belgian just doesn’t have the technical ability to satisfy the boss long term – in short, Fellaini is like a bull in a china shop.

Kevin Strootman has been mooted as a long-term investment for the club but he still hasn’t started playing first team football for Roma after a lengthy injury absence. And reports today from Portugal add fuel to the Enzo Perez fire. They say that Manchester United scouted the player when he turned out for Benfica on Tuesday and that he’s available for 30m Euros.

We have seen in The Premier League with players like Zabaleta, Di Maria and Aguero that Argentine internationals tend to be highly skillful and highly professional.

At 28 Perez still has time to become Manchester United’s midfield general and the presence of Di Maria and Rojo would only help him to settle in. Perez is strong, quick and technically excellent.

He’s been a late bloomer on the international front but played in the semi final and final of The World Cup 2014 after Di Maria got injured.

We think that Manchester United fans would love this guy. Let’s see him in action. United fans: is he the answer for the engine room?
