Tottenham to sign 26 goal schemer?

Worthy?

This one has been simmering for some time and it appears a matter of when not if the transfer goes through.

Tottenham won’t be the only interested party but broadsheet reports today suggest that Spurs is still his most likely destination. The Telegraph says:

Mauricio Pochettino will ask Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Hotspur chairman, to make a new move for the Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez in the January transfer window.

The striker has scored 26 goals since he moved to Southampton in 2012. But he’s made 76 appearances to get tot hat figure. He;s nit the quickest player in the world and we would like to see Tottenham sign a real speed demon up top to optimise the service from out side.

But Mauricio Pochettino obviously feels that Rodriguez fits the template of the sort of player that he needs to imprint his system onto the club.

In his favour, Rodriguez had lovely feet and is good at bringing others into play. But will he score the 20 odd goals needed each season from Tottenham’s next main man up top? Not sure.

More likely, he’s only part of the solution, which should see Adebayor and Soldado leave the club in what could well be a complete overhaul of the attack over the next 12 months. Add a top central defender and Tottenham will be a far more substantial outfit.

Let’s see Rodriguez in action. Tottenham fans: keen or underwhelmed?
