Manchester United have undergone big changes over the last year. But it surprised even us to see the scale of that transformation when we compared team sheets from last year to this.
Because, the team that took to the field on Monday night against WBA was almost unrecognisable from that which began the reign of David Moyes just over a year ago.
Manchester United fans were desperate for new blood after the Ferguson era. But even the most optimistic surely couldn’t have hoped for this much investment. You do still feel that another couple of defensive players are needed. By that time the team may be entirely different from the one which David Moyes led out against Swansea at the start of the 2013 season.
That team had the old guard at the back and the marvellous Ryan Giggs in the midfield. Fast forward a year and a bit and there were 8 changes from that side against WBA:
We knew that change was coming but you would still struggle to believe this team sheet if you had been shown it a year ago. Quite apart from the amazing addition of Di Maria, you may not know who the heck Blind and Rojo were!
Times have changed particularly quickly for Manchester United – don’t expect such wholesale arrivals again for many years.
