Manchester United’s results haven’t always been up to scratch this season with the team still struggling to find a way to perform for the whole 90 minutes, rather than in excellent spates.

But we can’t help but be impressed with the way LvG has gone about things. The team needed serious refreshment and it now has that – hungry stars embarking on an exciting project that they hope will lead to silverware.

One element of the LvG approach that has encouraged many fans is his adventurous and brave policy towards youth. He’s selected, Blackett, Lingaard and James already this season. And, with more experienced, but less specialist, options available for the defence against Everton Van Gaal looks to be sticking with Paddy McNair. He has so much faith in such players that he’s even prepared to tell the media about his selection plans before the game, apparently not concerned that the canny Roberto Martinez could target the lad as a potential weak link.

This investment in youth looks set to continue as Manchester United are reportedly pursuing a serious interest in a player described as one of the best young defenders in England. The Daily Mail reports:

Manchester United step up interest in West Ham teenage star Reece Oxford, who they claim is best young defender in England

The 15 year old, who captained the England U17s in the summer, has also had scouts from Arsenal watch him regularly and the source also claims that Chelsea have an interest in the lad. At 6ft 3in he’s already huge but has superb feet and is a really graceful player. Remind you of anyone? If Oxford can get anywhere near Rio’s standard then Manchester United could be laughing all the way to a load more silverware in future.
