Manchester United fans will hope that much bigger deals than this get done before the deadline on Monday. But this guy looks like a really good investment for the future.
Just 16 years of age Timothy Mensa already looks like a man mountain and someone that could possibly get some game time in the first team before too long.
With The Capital One Cup gone for the season he will most likely have to wait for another year before a call up but it’s great to see that Louis van Gaal is planning for the future at Manchester United as well as the present.
The Daily Mail reports:
Manchester United and Louis van Gaal close to signing 16-year-old Ajax defender Timothy Fosu Mensah
The highly-rated Dutch prospect was at United’s Carrington training ground on Thursday ahead of a move which will cost an initial £300,000 in compensation.
For £300,000 Manchester United are buying a player with immense potential but someone who won’t cost a lot of money if he doesn’t make the grade in the first team. Manchester United will at least recoup that outlay if he does move on.
The same source reports that Manchester City and Inter Milan were interested in the player but Manchester United appear to have stolen a march.
He looks like a player who will fit well into Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United’s philosophy as he can play at left back, in the centre of defence and even in the holding midfield role. We should expect to hear a lot more from this lad in the not too distant future.
