With all of the speculation and hype surrounding Arturo Vidal to Manchester United, we have perhaps overlooked the fact that LvG probably needs two new midfielders before the start of the season.
Apart from Ander Herrera United have a collection of midfielders who are either injured, not good enough or in their autumn years.
Vidal would remedy many of the midfield deficiencies. But a second new middle man would make the squad look really convincing in that department once more.
Recent reports suggest that Manchester United could make a bid for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song if Vidal doesn’t come to Old Trafford.
Many would consider this a bit of damp squib of a transfer – at least not the marquee signing that would delight the fans and inspire the squad.
But you know what? We actually really like the lad. He may not have been central to things at Barcelona since joining in 2012 for 18.7m Euros. But he’s strong in most departments. Technically good quality. Nimble and mobile. Someone who can attack and defend. While he may not be the solution, alone, we think he’d add depth as part of a general rebuild of the engine room.
The Express reports:
Man Utd to snap up former Arsenal star if Arturo Vidal deal collapses
We think that Manchester United could use both. Song was part of the title winning Barcelona side of 2013 (34 appearances in all comps) and was a runner up in 2014 (31).
He looks set to leave Barcelona this summer and the buying club will be getting a solid player with 47 caps for Cameroon and much lead left in the pencil at 26.
Let’s see Song at his best. United fans: Worth a punt regardless of Vidal?
