Tottenham’s next major signing?

Sensation

It’s all a bit up in the air at the moment. We reported this week on Tottenham’s interest in the brilliant young Dutch international Memphis Depay.

After bolstering their defence for most of the summer the club seems to have turned their attention to attacking reinforcements of late and Depay would be an explosive option to have.

The Guardian reported on this week that Tottenham are preparing a bid:

Tottenham line up £15m bid for PSV winger Memphis Depay

But The Metro has said Thursday afternoon that:

Tottenham see Memphis Depay hopes decline as PSV Eindhoven reveal no interest in Nacer Chadli

they included the following quotes:

‘Our sporting director Marcel Brands stated to Dutch media yesterday that he expects Memphis to stay at the club and Nacer Chadli is not of interest to us,’ a spokesperson told Sky Sports News.

We would imagine that the deal doesn’t hinge on Chadli moving the other way. We actually think that he should be given another season at Spurs to prove his worth. And the price on Depay’s head isn’t huge so a pure cash offer could surely be summoned by Tottenham if they want their man enough.

And even if the price rose to £20m we think that Depay would be well worth it. He’s a genuine game changer who would get the Tottenham fans off their seats on a regular basis. At just 20 years of age it’s a low risk investment for the London club. Even if Depay failed to deliver at White Hart Lane Spurs would get much to most of their money back for one so young.

But, with Erik Lamela still finding his feet a year after a megabucks move, Tottenham might prove to be once bitten twice shy on this one.

Anyway, we think he’d be a marvellous player and Tottenham should do the deal. Let’s see him in action.
