Everton: International on radar. Will this deal finally get done? Report

Worth a punt

We always maintain that there is seldom smoke without fire in the transfer market. One player that has been persistently linked with a move to Everton over the last year is Manchester United’s peripheral squad member Tom Cleverley.

You do feel that he has the raw materials to be a real success at Everton and indeed Manchester United. But his career has taken such a nose dive over the last 12 months that he may need a move in order to get back on an upward trajectory.

The Daily Mail reports:

Everton consider move for Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley as Louis van Gaal trims squad at Old Trafford

You could definitely imagine him fitting into Roberto Martinez’s ethos of a quick passing team which is technically adept.

Cleverly is a neat and tidy footballer with good technique but he spent too much time passing the ball sideways and backwards last season as the crowd got on his back.

We think the Everton manager would be an ideal mentor to bring the best back out of a player who was a prominent member of the Roy Hodgson’s England team just 18 months ago.

With a reported fee of around £8 million it seems like a low risk investment, because even if he didn’t perform at Everton then, at 25, he would have a sell on value.

So we can definitely imagine this one happening. Let’s take a look at him in action. Everton fans: would Cleverley get into the first-team at Goodison?
