Tottenham’s strongest XI with with Jay-Rod and Schneiderlin

Progress?

What ever happens in terms of league and cup finishes this season we strongly believe that Tottenham have got the right man in Mauricio Pochettino.

Of course it’s impossible to know for sure whether a specific manager will suit a specific club. But we are confident that the new Tottenham man will not be sacked based on performance.

He will pull them together and get Tottenham playing a much more exciting brand of football again after a season in which the results flowed pretty well but the performance levels were poor.

We remember going to one game in particular, against Everton at home, which Spurs won but looked so disjointed that you might imagine that this eleven had never played together. A spark has been missing since Harry and Gary (Bale) left the club. But we think that Mau-Po will bring the swashbuckle back to White Hart Lane.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez could well follow Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Michel Vorm into the club. And we shall expect further additions before September. But, based on those five coming in, and a few departures, we would call the following, Tottenham’s best team for the season opener.

Tottenham fans: let’s have your thoughts. As if we need to ask!

Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Lloris, Davies, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Walker – Schneiderlin, Dembele – Townsend, Eriksen, Lamela – Rodriguez

Subs: Vorm, Naughton, Dawson, Bentaleb, Chadli, Lennon, Soldado

I’d agree with that comment, with the possibility of replacing Sandro with Paulinho. I have a feeling that Poch may get something out of Paulinho this season. J-Rod, if he joins, is definitely going to be on the left of three behind the striker.

Why is this crap being written? Schneiderin and Rodriguez are NOT for sale according to Southampton. Even if they were, Rodriguez is not expected to be match ready until Christmas, so how could he be ready for the season opener? Think before you write.

Totally agree. There again when have the facts stopped publication of an article? After the injury Rodriguez sustained ,the question is not where he is moving to but more like will he play again? The fact he is in light training means nothing….will the knee go again in match conditions?

Personally I don’t believe we will sign Rodriguez, not yet anyway. Schneiderlin is a possibility as we Spurs fans knows saying a player isn’t for sale is never a guarantee (yes I’m talking about Bale) however if we did get the signings were rumoured for I would go with:
    GK: Lloris
    LB: Davies
    CB: Vertonghen
    CB: Musacchio
    RB: Walker
    CDM: schneiderlin
    CDM: Dembele
    LAM: Rodriguez
    CAM: Eriksen
    RAM: Lamela
    ST: Soldado

If you have been watching pre season you will know we all expect our front four to be rotating and to have such diversity in attack. Please leave any replies on this as I’m interested to hear fellow Spurs opinions!

Every day, every hour, every minute there’s reports of imminent arrivals of Schneiderlin and Rodriguez. To be quite frank, after watching all preseason games so far, I wouldn’t want us to sign either of them. Schneiderlin sounds as another mercenary-type footballer, and J-Rod is out until Christmas.
I would like us to stick with what we’ve got in the midfield, with adding (possibly) only another centre-back and striker.
Hence, my strongest XI would be like this (4-2-3-1):
    Lloris
    Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Davies
    Capoue Holtby
    Lennon Eriksen Lamela
    Soldado

    Subs: Vorm/ Chiriches/ Sandro/ Bentaleb/ Mason/ Townsend/ Adebayor

Realistically, Spurs may have courted the idea of bringing in Rodrigues and Schneiderlin but, it appears unlikely we will see them at the Lane. However, once the deadwood has been got rid of, i.e. Fazio, Chiriches, Kaboul, Capoue, Chadli, Adebayor, Paulinho, Dembele, Walker, Vertonghen and Soldado, then in come replacements like Konoplyanka, Howedes, Musacchio, Zaza and Horn. The team might look something like this:

    GK: Horn
    LB: Davies
    CB: Howedes
    CB: Musacchio
    RB: Yedlin
    CDM: Pritchard
    CDM: Alli
    LAM: Konoplyanka
    CAM: Eriksen
    RAM: Lamela
    ST: Zaza
