Louis to buy?

Manchester United have already bolstered the defence with the sensational Luke Shaw this summer. He’s going to be a legend for the club.

But United will also need to bring in at least one centre back and some reckon that Louis van Gaal is looking for an experienced head to complement the talents of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

To that end Thomas Vermaelen has again been linked today as The Daily Star renovates the persistent rumour that Manchester United want the disenfranchised Arsenal club captain.

EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United set to move for £10m Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen

Er. Not sure that’s an exclusive but the news outlet reckons that a new bid will be made this week. Sort of an exclusive then?

It’s a decent if underwhelming signing. But Manchester United fans tend to get more excited about the signings of younger players and a name that has cropped up today is bound to get more tongues wagging.

The future of Stefan de Vrij is up in the air with various teams reportedly keen. He was said to be close to above to Lazio over the weekend but The Mirror reckons that LvG may move to make him his first real signing for the club.

Stefan de Vrij is set to be Louis van Gaal’s first signing for Manchester United.

De Vrij, the Holland centre-back, is refusing to sign for Lazio because he believes he will soon be reunited with Van Gaal at the Old Trafford giants.

You would have thought that LvG, a very popular figure in the Holland squad, would have first dibs on the youngsters in that squad. De Vrij was definitely one of the best defenders at The World Cup – he’s a really classy, composed and ball-playing centre-back – this guy, in years to come, could fill the huge hole left by the peerless Rio Ferdinand.

At 22 De Vrij has already played 135 league games for Feyenoord scoring seven goals. We think that he’s definitely Manchester United quality. Let’s see the lad in action. United fans: keen?

Not a bad turn of speed, good positioning and timing, doesnt dive in rashly. Also looks like he can look after himself and is confident taking the ball upfield, can go past players and pick out a pass…..I’d say the Rio comparisons are valid.
Wouldn’t complain at all if VI signed him and Blind. Classie next year perhaps? I still think Vidal is the key signing though.
    3-5-2
    …………………….De gea………………………..

    ……..DeVrij….Hummels…Vermalen……..

    Valencia………….Vidal………………..Shaw
    ……………Herrera……..Blind…………………

    ……………….RvP……….Mata……………….

Subs from: Lindegaard, Evans, Smalling, Jones, Rafael, Carrick, Januzaj, Kagawa, Rooney, Welbeck

Easily changed to 4-3-3 by moving Shaw back to LB and De Vrij across to RB and subbing Valencia, Herrera or Blind for Rooney or Welbeck.
