Chelsea have discussed the possibility of a swap deal involving Ramires and Luka Modric with Real Madrid. Both clubs will continue talks to try to come to an agreement over the next couple of days according to The Metro.
Chelsea are apparently willing to use Ramires as a makeweight to land Luka Modric, but The Metro states that Real Madrid would prefer a cash fee of £20 million as well as the player. However, The Blues are holding firm at a cash add-on of just £10 million.
The same source reports that Real Madrid and manager Carlo Ancelotti have been watching the Brazilian box-to-box midfielder for a number of months. Ancelotti knows exactly what he would be getting if any transfer went through as he has previously worked with the 27 year old during his time as manager of Chelsea.
Similarly, Jose Mourinho is very familiar with Modric having brought him to the Bernabeu from Tottenham in 2012. The Croatian has since gone on to become an integral part of the Real Madrid side under both Mourinho and Ancelotti, making over 100 appearances for the club. He has also helped the Spanish giants to a Copa del Rey title as well as The Champions League trophy.
Ramires joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2010 and has since made 196 appearances for the club in all competitions, finding the net 27 times.
Modric on the other hand joined Real from Tottenham in 2012 for a fee of £33 million. He had previously played for Dinamo Zagreb until he joined the North London side in 2006. The Metro also reports that Modric is Chelsea’s preferred midfield transfer target, with Cesc Fabregas only seen as a fall back option.
