Tottenham to strengthen squad early?

Cultured defender

There has been a lot of unwanted speculation over the last few months surrounding Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen and a possible move away from Tottenham.

After a stellar couple of campaigns for Tottenham he may be keen to dine at Europe’s top table.

With Spurs not qualifying for The Champions League again this season he may be courted by other clubs other big clubs around the continent.

You would struggle to find a Tottenham fan who wouldn’t want to retain his services but the club might well plan for such eventuality anyway. With speculation, however hollow, also surrounding the future of Younes Kaboul you would imagine that Tottenham will certainly add at least one centre back in the coming window.

Accordingly, Tottenham are the latest club to show an interest in Calgliari defender David Astori, according to latest reports. We say that Talksport says that Tuttosport reports Spurs have an eye on the 27-year-old who has appeared seven times for Italy.

Astori has reportedly drawn admiring glances from other teams in The Premier league in the past and is an elegant defender who remains composed under pressure.

We sometimes worry about defenders coming from Serie A to The Premier League as they can be overwhelmed by the pace of the English game.

But this guy looks like a canny player and one who has the tools to assimilate quickly.

Tottenham fans: keen?

Vertonghen had 1 stellar season last season. This season he has been average at best and needs to concentrate on his game rather than tout for a move away.
