Champions League or bust

It’s a pivotal point in Manchester United’s season. With a top four finish looking increasingly unlikely for United an improbable Champions League victory may be their only route into Europe next season.

The first leg of any Champions League tie is usually the more conservative of the two as both teams feel each other out before a humdinger in the second leg. But we think that Manchester United need to throw caution to the wind in this tie.

Even if they played really badly or way too offensively in Greece there is no way that they will be out of The Champions League after the first leg. For all their domestic dominance, Olympiakos simply don’t have enough quality to rout Manchester United.

Even a two nil deficit would be possible for Manchester united to overturn. So we think that they should go into this game all guns blazing. If they did win convincingly away from home it would not only give them a massive confidence boost, and a chance to concentrate on the league for a month, but also remind everyone that whilst Manchester United are off the pace at home they are still a force to be reckoned with in Europe.

And we genuinely believe this to be the case. Manchester United have enough quality to win the trophy. They simply don’t have the form right now. But this can and will improve over the next month or so. We believe that Manchester United’s form has bottomed out and that they are now on an upward trajectory.

So we would love to see a really fearless attacking lineup in the first leg on Tuesday night. Here is how we think/hope they will set up. For us, fitness permitting, the only question is whether Moyes goes with Kagawa or Valencia. We would prefer to see the former but think he will plump for the latter. As long as Ashley Young doesn’t get a start we don’t mind. But what is important is that David Moyes starts picking a consistent team instead of making constant changes.

Manchester United: De Gea, Rafa, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Fellaini, Valencia, Rooney, Januzaj, RvP
